Hockey Ireland has been advised by the Garda Central Vetting Unit (March 22nd) that the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 will commence on April 29th 2016 .
To facilitate the transition to the new vetting system and to implement the requirements of the vetting legislation, no vetting applications will be accepted or processed by the Garda Central Vetting Unit from April 18th to 28th.
In preparation for this transfer to the new vetting system, Hockey Ireland will temporarily cease processing vetting forms on Friday the 8th of April. The current Hockey Ireland vetting form will expire on that date and the new Garda vetting form will be made available to clubs thereafter. The current form will not be accepted by the GCVU after that date.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT ANY FORMS IN YOUR POSSESSION ARE PROCESSED AND SENT TO HOCKEY IRELAND BEFORE 8TH APRIL. FORMS RECEIVED AFTER THAT DATE WILL BE RETURNED. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT SIGNATURES ON THE FORMS MUST NOT BE OLDER THAN 6 MONTHS, OTHERWISE THE FORMS WILL BE RETURNED.
The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 makes vetting mandatory for anyone volunteering or seeking employment relating to children or vulnerable persons. Anybody who is involved in ‘any work or activity which is carried out by a person, a necessary and regular part of which consists mainly of the person having access to, or contact with children' must be vetted.
It will be an offence for an organisation or an employer to employ someone to work with children or vulnerable persons without going through the vetting procedures set out in the Act. Liability rests with the organisation or employer, not the employee.
If you have any questions or queries regarding vetting please contact Vivienne Clarke at 01 7163269 or by email on Vivienne.email@example.com .
